I am so grateful for His perfect plan for me!

Dear Family and Friends,

Ok...where to even begin. So first of all, I am emailing today cause it is pday haha. Yes, pday on a Saturday. It's cause of the Apostle coming on Monday, so we won't have pday then. Not sure if we get another one next week or not...but hey! I would love to still hear from everyone on Monday cause I can read the emails during the week even if I don't get pday. And I want to know what's happening at home :) 

Second of all...TRANSFERS. So this is probably the craziest transfer of my entire mission. Like...ever. So I got a call that I would no longer be an STL (which I kinda was figuring anyways, so that was expected) and then we got dodge calls that night and learned we were BOTH leaving and the STL area was moving to Stamford. So Sister Nielsen and Sister Gillette are the STL's for Nottingham and Leicester in Stamford. Now...where did I go? I am in Peterborough, follow up training Sister McAravey, and so....I am in the same district as Sister Nielsen and Sister Gillette, AND Sister Dignos and Sister Koivisto. So I know everyone in my district and I've been on exchanges or been companions with all of them haha. So crazy! And I am in Leicester zone still....SOO crazy. Also a fun thing, my beloved daughter Sister Sharp is now in Demontfort, so she is in Leicester zone as well!! ALL my companions still in the mission are in my zone :) oh happy day!!! 

So since I last wrote (on Monday)......besides the craziness of transfers, we mostly just taught loads of lessons. OH and we went on exchange with the  Lincoln sisters and I went to Lincoln and taught a witch (yep. Witches are real) and it was crazy! And I touched a lot of horses in a field. And it was so good! 

Not a ton to say cause well...pday is random.  But yeah! Today we went for lunch with most of the district and it was fun. Pics to come :) I'll update you all as well on the elder cook conference when I can! We might have pday next week so PLEASE EMAIL ME. haha no emails for the week is so sad. I will respond when I have a pday. It could be the remainder of Monday, it could not happen....I'm not sure. 

But something that I think is so cool is how well God knows us. Like...He knows us perfectly. And I am so grateful to know I have a Heavenly Father who knows me and loves me. And I am so grateful for his perfect plan for me! It is amazing to me how things always work the way we need them to, even if it's not what we expected. God knows us. And that makes me so happy.

No Thanksgiving in England - but thankful for my miracles!

Dear Family and Friends,

So my week! And some CRAZY news.

So first of all TRANSFERS ARE ON FRIDAY THIS WEEK. And we find out what is happening on Wednesday night. And we get an extra pday sometime this week (I am guessing Thursday right before transfers for packing and stuff). So if you want to email for then, feel free, if not, I'll hear from you the next week. AND Elder Quinton L. Cook is coming to the mission on Monday and we are having a mission conference. ANOTHER APOSTLE IS COMING! This will be the 3rd member of the Quorum of the 12 to come while I am on my mission. Wow. So I have no clue what is going to happen with pday next week. Please still email and I will respond when I get to :)

So next week, I will have heard from an apostle, I might be in a new area or have a new comp or both or something, and you will have heard from me an extra time :) CRAZY. 

Alright so wow....this week has been crazy! But amazing. Again, I'm probably just going to list a couple miracles from the week 'cause I don't have a ton of time, Sister Nielsen had to take a driving test today so that was fun and yeah! Anyways...this week. 

A couple cool things that happened, we had a multi zone conference with Leicester, as we are helping out with the poppy appeal this year so that was super fun! We got to see all the Sisters we work with, which was fun, and we are excited to help out with that more this year!! We also had MLC this week so it was a bit busy but I loved it, and I learned SO MUCH at MLC. I love that meeting :) We also had double exchanges which was SUPER crazy with all the meetings, but miracles happened as well and it was awesome. 

So miracle number 1/cool thing - We had dinner with a member in our ward named Hong, she is from China and she is awesome! She comes teaching with us all the time and just really helps us out all the time! She cooked us some traditional food from where she lives in China, because I told her I love spicy food and we don't have it much on our mission (British food is pretty bland). It was DELICIOUS, and as we were eating she told us it had pig tongue, fish ball, squid, fungus, and other delicious things haha. It really was good though. And the miracle is that she was able to make it completely gluten and dairy free :) YAY! 

Miracle #2 - exchanges with Sister Smith and Sister Selwa, who are in Derby. I was with Sister Smith who is a FANTASTIC missionary. She had been out for about a transfer now, but is SO good and loves to work and learn and improve. We saw miracles as we talked with everyone and just shared the gospel, we had a dinner with a family from America which was actually so nice, they are so missionary oriented (and I got to play their guitar and piano!!!!) and they were just so willing to do anything to help us. 

Miracle #3 - we had a surprise lesson with a friend named Delphin, who is from Africa. She wasn't home earlier in the week when we were supposed to have a lesson, so we just stopped by and let us in to teach her! We ended up sharing a lot about general conference and showed her the gospel library app which she LOVED, she said she will watch all the videos and listen to the scriptures, and we also shared some good gospel music with her. It was so cool to see how much she loved it all! 

Miracle #4 - THE RAI FAMILY! So there is this family from Nepal who have been taught by the missionaries for about a year. Never committed, haven't come to church, but they have been coming for the last 4 weeks, and I showed up to their lesson this weekend on exchange with Sister Olsen, we walked in, chit chatted for a minute, and then they dropped a bomb. The dad said, "Sisters, we have been meeting with missionaries for a long time, and we have decided we all want to get baptised and we have picked the day we want to do it, and we want your help to get us ready." WOW. We had been praying about how to help people prepare to get baptised, and this family is so prepared, and just...prepared themselves! So awesome. Faith brings miracles.

WOW! So I am just going to share a couple quick miracles from the week, cause...who doesn't love miracles?

Miracle #1 - Exchanges with the Peterborough sisters!! So this week we were doing a sister CHALLENGE week with all the sisters we work with, and we got to do some of the challenges while we were with the Peterborough sisters on exchange which was awesome. We prayed about being able to hand out a Book of Mormon in a different language, and took a Czech one out with us and lo and behold, we knocked on a door and a Czech family lived there! and accepted our copy of the Book of Mormon in their native tongue. So that was a miracle! I was with Sister Koivisto for the exchange, and she is fantastic! Just a few weeks out on the mission and already working hard and talking with everyone. So cool to see how prepared the greenies are for their missions - they just don't realize how great they are! So much faith and enthusiasm for the work. I love it'

Miracle #2 - We met a random guy outside the library while waiting for another guy to show up for our lesson (he never showed up) and we ended up teaching this man named Jay, who had met missionaries like 10 years ago! And he had never given them his number, but he still has a Book of Mormon and he gave us his number and we met with him again the next day! He is AWESOME! And has so many questions, and accepted baptism as soon as he knows that this is true. SO COOL.

Miracle #3 - we are teaching this amazing family who is SO PREPARED. There is the mom, and then 3 teenage kids (15, 13, and 11 years old) and then a baby who is just over 1 year old. We taught them the Plan of Salvation this week, and they accepted a baptismal date and are preparing for it and seem SO EXCITED. The oldest girl who is 15 was like "so if I come to church and love it, can I just get baptised like next week?" So awesome. They are so prepared and excited about the gospel :)

Miracle #4 and my thought for the week - GENERAL CONFERENCE! So remember how I sent out last week about preparing for conference? Well...this last week I worked really hard to really prepare myself for conference. And let me tell you...ALL MY QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED! So crazy. Some weren't answered as specifically as I was expecting, but I know my next steps and what I need to do now, so that has been so cool! I love receiving answers to questions, and conference was so inspiring and amazing. One of my favourite talks was the one by Kazuhiko Yamashitu (I hope I spelled that right) and he talked about being ambitious for Christ. I loved the quote from his son "Though I am experiencing a lot of difficulties, I am truly happy." Because that is seriously how I feel every day. My mission is HARD. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I have cried over people, watched people make mistakes that hurt them so badly, and just seen a lot of sadness and pain. But...I have also seen how the gospel truly blesses those who live it.  The gospel is what brings TRUE JOY to people. I have never been happier than I am now, as a missionary, and that is because I am truly living the gospel. And my whole purpose as a missionary is to bring that joy to people! Elder Nelson said in his talk, “That is why our missionaries leave their homes to preach His gospel. Their goal is not to increase the number of Church members,” said President Nelson. “Rather, our missionaries teach and baptize to bring joy to the people of the world.” And that truly is why I am out here. I want to bring joy to all those I teach and work with, because I have seen in my own life how much joy the gospel brings! It is amazing. This gospel is a gospel of happiness. "Adam fell, that men might be, and men are, that they might have joy!" This is so true. I hope each of you are feeling joy every day, and if not....my challenge to you is to pray, read from the scriptures, and follow the gospel. That is what truly will bring you happiness. I know it :)

Conference....just us....

Miracles for days :) and that was our day!

Dear family and friends,

Monday - PDAY! So we got our car fixed (a light wasn't working), and then headed into town for district lunch and some fun together. We had Taco Bell, of course, cause the elders LOVE Taco Bell, and then headed to check out some charity shops and ended up buying a district unity item because well...we had to. Pictures to follow haha.

Tuesday - so we started off the day by going out to Granthem, a village about 45 minutes away from Nottingham. This was the first time out there for the both of us, which was fun and we were able to visit some less active people and kind of see how this part of our area worked! We then drove back to Nottingham and picked up the demontfort sisters for a day full of fun and work :) I was with sister Christy, and it was literally one of the craziest exchanges ever haha, we took a member teaching with us that night and as we got out of the car to visit one last person, we saw someone getting mugged SOO... That is Nottingham for you.

Wednesday - we finished off exchanges, I took sister Christy to Taco Bell as she had never been in her whole life and she so wanted to try it (she is from Ireland). Also fun fact, Sister Christy came out the same time as my lovely daughter Sister Sharp, so it was fun to be with her :) weird to think they have been out for about 8 months now. AH. We then went finding and met some AWESOME people, one lady was so sweet. We knocked on her door and ended up setting a time to come next week, and she said "oh I will be waiting for you, I am so happy!". It was awesome. Then we had an...interesting experience of a guy trying to kiss me on the street, which I successfully avoided so that was an adventure. All in all, an exciting exchange. We then dropped the sisters off at the train station, and then had dinner and drove to Stamford to pick up the sisters there for exchange! We drove back and that was our night.

Thursday -  we had exchanges with the Stamford sisters! This time I got to be with sister Wadsworth, we went out to a tiny tiny village and visited the nicest old lady, and talked to some other nice old people haha. Small posh villages are full of old English people here :) it was lovely, and then we came back, taught some lessons, and that was the day! They travelled back home and we taught some more lessons.

Friday - we had district meeting, which was FANTASTIC. I learned and relearned a lot of things that I need to improve on in the upcoming weeks and months, and hopefully as I apply things to improve, I will see miracles! We finally took a district picture as well so I'll send that. Then we went to the Notts 4 Sisters area, Sister Olsen and Sister Smyrnova (I forgot to take a picture....oops) and we helped them out with some finding, and we saw MIRACLES. I was with Sister Smyrnova, and the first 3 doors we knocked on, everyone was lovely and said we could come back, and at the 4th door, a lady named Emma just let us right on in! She is SO interested and has so many questions, it was amazing to talk with her and to strengthen her faith. So cool. We then came back, had a DA with Priya, and then taught a couple more lessons!

Saturday - we weekly planned in the morning, then drove to Lincoln to work with Sister Horwatch and Sister Manning, and did a bunch of finding with them in their area and had ANOTHER a miracle where we got let in while tracting, and we taught this lady named Jeanie, and WOW. She is so prepared as well. Miracles for days. Then we drove home, and went and did district finding with our district in the elders area. And we met some awesome people there as well :) and that was our day!

Sunday - we had church, which was WONDERFUL. I am so excited for this upcoming weekend of conference, all the talks in church were about prophets and things and it got me so excited. Then, we drove to Peterborough, with Sister Koivisto and Sister Dignos, did some finding in their area with them and saw MORE MIRACLES. Miracles for days. We met this super cool girl who is actually friends with a member in the ward already, so that was awesome! Also, Sister Koivisto told me she read my blog with her mom at home, so that is so cool! If her mom is reading this...shoutout to her haha. You have a great daughter who is rocking her mission. Anyways, it was so good to get to work with them, and then we drove home and had call-ins with a couple district leaders and that was our day!

This week was nuts because we basically only worked in other people's areas for like 3 days of the week, but we saw so many miracles and were so blessed in our area as we did that. God is good, and he loves us and will help us so much as we serve others. I've been thinking a lot about preparing for general conference (which is a big conference broadcasted 2 times a year, in April and October. The prophet and the apostles and other leaders of the church speak to the whole world, it is awesome), and I was thinking of things I could do to prepare. Our mission president sent us some ideas, and I have some as well that I have taken from my studies...so I want to share some ideas with you :) I have 6 simple ideas that I want to apply that I think will really improve my conference experience.

1. Pray for the speakers at the conference.
2. Come with a question in your heart. I promise you it will be answered :)
3. Come with a desire to follow the direction you receive, especially if it relates to a personal challenge you may be facing.
4. Be humble. Come prepared to change as you apply what you learn
5. Prepare your schedule so you can be ready to listen and learn a few
minutes before the conference starts (not after the opening hymn has
happened haha)
6. Use a physical pen and paper to take notes, so you don't get distracted by your phone/tablet/device of any sort.

I would just like to invite you all to watch a session (or 2 or 3 or 4) of conference, and to prepare yourself by using all or any of these steps, and to really pay attention to the words that are said. I really know that this conference is inspired, and I love it so much and can't wait to share what I learn next week!
