The blessings don't always come right away, but they do come.

Dear Family and Friends,

Hello again!

You will be happy to hear that this week was NOT the hardest week of my entire mission :) in fact, it's been one of the best. Not that anything too crazy happened....just...a lot of happiness has been had in the last week. Here are some miracles for you!
  1. So first of all...WE FOUND RASTISLAV! Remember our gypsy investigator who was lost? Yep. We found him. Basically, he called us out of the blue with a new phone number and was so sad we hadn't been in contact (but he changed his number so there was no way for us to contact him). We've set up an appointment with him and it should be good!
  2. Tracting brings miracles. So since we had a rough week last week, we were left this week with hardly anyone to teach. So, we went out finding! A LOT of finding happened. And we found some amazing people to teach. We decided to go out knocking on doors, sharing the Christmas video from last year (we don't have the one for this year yet) and it was SO successful. People love Christmas generally, and so we had a lot of people let us in to share it, and invite us to come back, so this next week should be really good as we go visit the 30 or so people we found :) one of the coolest one was this family we met from Portugal! So we knocked on the door, one of the daughters answered and we started the video and she loved it and halfway through was like, "hey come inside, it's cold, and share this with my family!" So we walk in and...there is a HUGE family! 7 kids, which is a LOT, and the parents. We were able to share the video with most of the family, and they loved it and invited us back for this next week! WOOT WOOT! Miracles are flowing.
  3. Service brings miracles. So on Saturday we were helping with the poppy appeal (where they sell poppies to remember the soldiers) and we were standing out in the freezing cold rain for 3 hours, which was exciting. But we met the most amazing, lovely people. While we are helping we aren't supposed to proselyte, but we just speak to people and are friendly and we had a guy talk to us who invited us to visit him on Sunday! So we went on Sunday, and brought one of the church members with us and he is awesome! He has some super interesting beliefs, a lot of which actually line up exactly with what we believe, so we gave him a Book of Mormon, he is going to read it, and we are going to see him this week!
  4. Thanksgiving and Americans :) so there are a couple American families in our ward here, and one of them had us over for an early American thanksgiving, and it was AWESOME. As the dad said "eat until you fall asleep" haha. Then on Sunday they showed up with a huge bag full of food and American goodies for us cause they are just that nice. I love nice people :)
  5. Portuguese food! So there is a less active mom and son we are working with from Portugal, who made us this dish and we cooked it with them! It was SOOOO good and so fun to make, so that is a miracle as well.
Basically...this week has been so happy. I am so so grateful for my saviour who helps me when times are hard. And so so grateful that we always get blessings when we do the right things and work our hardest. The blessings don't always come right away, but they do come. This week wasn't like...the most miracle filled week of my mission, but it was one of the happiest simply because I took more time to be grateful for the little things. Sometimes it's just being happy because the rain stops when you have to bike up a big hill, or being happy when someone smiles at you instead of glaring, or just...the little things. I love my mission. Thank you to everyone who emailed me this week, it really boosted me up as well. I truly appreciate it.
I love you all lots!

SO hard, but SO good.

Dear Family and Friends,

So I was thinking of what to write in this email, and what to say about my week...and to be honest, I think this week has been the hardest week of my mission so far. And it's been so so so good for me. So hard, but so good. So I apologise in advance if this email doesn't have any funny stories or exciting moments, but here is my week.

Basically, Monday through Thursday, we were able to teach like...no one. And just got rejected all day every day. Lots of rude people, loads and loads of rejection. Which generally doesn't get me too down, because rejection is life, but this week was HARD. There are some other things that go into it, but it was just..hard. I have been so exhausted lately (yay for the old missionary life) and on Thursday night I was just so frustrated with myself because I was feeling so inadequate and exhausted and just...frustrated. The missionary work wasn't going great and I felt that it was my fault (dumb I know) because I was so exhausted.

I have a goal to be really positive no matter what happens so I'd been trying to be super positive to help my companion through all the rough times, and I was just tired of trying so hard. So I had a good talk with Heavenly Father, and just asked him to help me make it just through the next day positively, as I asked the elders to give me a blessing Friday night. I prayed pretty much every couple hours just to make it to the next thing, just to get through every hour and I did it!

He sent little tender mercies along the way to help me do it as well. There was a random guy who  after we knocked on his door (and got rejected), a few minutes later opened up his door again as we were still on the street knocking his neighbors door, and gave us water bottles and told us we could lock our bikes up near his flat anytime we wanted to knock this street cause he had cameras guarding it. Then, a lady with awesome music was SO nice to us and let us pet her dog, and then we finally had a great lesson with an investigator we had been trying to see the whole time Ive been here. And I made it to Friday night, and got a blessing. And you know what? Nothing crazy was said, but the peace I felt with the work I was doing was amazing. And the added strength I got was exactly what I needed.

No matter how hard things are, God is there for us. He helps us when we just ask him! Sometimes I get so stubborn that I stop asking for help when I am struggling.....which is when I need the help the most. And this week was good because I needed to be reminded that asking for help is what I need to do. Jesus Christ suffered all the pains and afflictions and trials we have been through so that we can ask him for help and he can understand what we need and give it to us. I am so so so so grateful for the atonement. Because of that, and the enabling power of it, I can have the strength I need to make it through every day. And not just make it through by dragging myself through, but I can make it through smiling and happy.

Yes, sometimes it's hard. In fact, a lot of the time it is hard! But...if we use the atonement daily and sometimes hourly, or whenever we need it, we can make it through every hard time. Every single one. I know that. And I am so grateful for that knowledge.

I was reading this morning and found one of my favourite scriptures that fits this moment :)

Doctrine and Covenants 121: 7-8

7 My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment;

8 And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.

And then... Doctrine and Covenants 123:17

17 Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.

Thank you to everyone who supports me and helps me as I serve. Every prayer is appreciated, every email, every letter, just everything is so appreciated. I don't always express that enough or well enough but just know I am so grateful for all of you who support me. Thank you.

I love you all lots!

Sharing the love and joy I feel ALL DAY every day!

Dear Family and Friends,

This week has been FULL of crazy interesting moments for sure! Haha I learned some new African slang words ("Swak" - "when someone asks you for a cookie cause you have two, and you take one and lick it and shove the other one in your mouth") from SisterMcAravey, and we had an exciting week....

So first off, we had the first 4 days of our week booked FULL with appointments. Something was planned for every hour of the day. And what happened? NONE of them went through, everyone flogged us haha.....so that was exciting. Because of that we ended up doing a lot of finding, which means we met a LOT of interesting people. We had a lot of rejection/weird moments -  A man invited me to go party with him, a lady yelled at us, someone was too busy making chapatis to meet with us, and a guy was dancing and singing in the street about money. So that was exciting for sure..BUT then we had some great moments to make up for it :)

We were about to unlock our bikes to go to another area one day when I saw this old man working in his garden down the road, so we went to go help him! He even let us dig up part of his garden (in skirts haha) and just kind of laughed because we were doing the garden dressed like that. He is an 86 year old man from Italy named Leo, still going strong working in the garden. He is awesome. We should be seeing him again this week and meeting his wife as well :)

We also met another man who was working in his garden named Noel (I tell you, gardens are the best finding tool), who LOVES what we are doing and said we could come back to visit him and we even get to help in his garden as well!

Oh and a funny thing, and we were talking to this random guy at a bus stop who stopped us cause he heard my accent and thought I was from Dublin, Ireland. He is from Ireland and just seemed so confused by my accent. Bless him. I guess my accent is an American/Canadian/Irish accent now.

We also had interviews with our mission president this week, which was wonderful as usual. He gave me a few insights to things and it was just really good to talk with him, as well as with Sister Leppard after while my companion was having interviews. I love them both so much.

The best thing that happened this week though was with our investigator named Dasse. She is from Africa and is AWESOME. She also lived in Paris for a few years, and is a native French speaker,  she is teaching us a little bit of French which is fun. She has this adorable little boy who draws me pictures, and they are just so prepared. She was taught by missionaries a little bit in Paris, and she came to church with us for the first time this week! The miracle was that we hadn't been able to contact her for a few days, and she missed her appointment with us...we thought she was just avoiding us, but then she called us and said she had left her phone at her friends house when she went to London and had to wait for a few days to get it back and was so sorry she missed our appointment because of it! She is just awesome.

All in all, life is good here in Peterborough. I think I am getting leg muscles again cause of biking, and I've already lost weight from the months in the car (yay for biking ðŸš²) so that is a plus. I am happy and healthy and...just really happy. I am so grateful to be here in England right now, there is no where else I would rather be.

I think this week has made me even more grateful for my mission. I get to go out every single day and talk to people and share the love and joy I feel with them ALL DAY every day. Even when no one wants to talk to us or it rains or we get yelled at, I still get to do my best to share what I know and believe with people. And that is just awesome. I love my mission so much, not because of the outward results of it, but because it makes me so happy every single day to share what I know. Life is good and the mission is awesome :) I love you all lots and hope you have the best week ever!
